Apply information obtained in the basic and dental science courses in examining and interpreting observations in the oral inspection for each patient.

Examine the teeth and supporting structures and chart findings

Recognize conditions for emergency situations and prepare appropriately.

Recognize conditions which may indicate the need for radiographic examination.

Self-evaluate radiographs for technique errors and anatomic landmarks, and discuss with faculty.

Verbally, logically, and concisely report significant findings from radiographs to faculty and the patient.

Recognize those findings obtained in data collection that may require further consultation; review, and seek appropriate approval from course director.

Utilize all information obtained in data collection for preventative treatment planning.

Inform patients of their present oral health status.

Facilitate each patient in methods of homecare which are specific to his/her oral needs.

Apply principles of nutrition to recognize the need for and perform diet analysis and diet counseling.

Incorporate pit and fissure sealants into the treatment plans for patients which would benefit from the service.

Recognize the symptoms of dental hypersensitivity, and incorporate into the treatment plan an appropriate desensitizing technique.

Recognize the need for and incorporate intraoral photography on patients.

Involve and inform the patient in all aspects of decision-making, treatment planning, and implementing care.

Assess success of treatment in meeting short and long-term goals.

Utilize evidence based patient management skills in the assessment, planning, treatment, and re-evaluation of non-surgical periodontal therapy to all patients in order to provide comprehensive effective patient care.
