Lecture:

List and describe basic principles of radiation production and quality.

Discuss factors of x-ray production and dental sensors as related to diagnostically acceptable radiographs.

Discuss the composition, size, speed, and uses of dental radiographic sensors.

State guidelines for exposing dental radiographs.

Describe the set-up, armamentarium, and proper utilization of sensor processing.

Describe the biological effects of radiation exposure.

Discuss the exposure and utilization of extraoral radiography.

Discuss the rationale, methods, and law for protecting the patient and operator from ionizing radiation.

Laboratory:

Using a variety of techniques, make diagnostically acceptable radiographic surveys while meeting current legal requirements for radiation safety.

Maintain the treatment area, SCANX room, and each component of the armamentarium.

Process, mount, and evaluate radiographic surveys to determine diagnostic acceptability.

Demonstrate proper patient management and aseptic technique during the radiographic procedure.

Evaluate radiographs for errors in exposure and/or processing and corrective procedures.

Demonstrate knowledge of anatomical landmarks and radiographic interpretation.

Comply with clinic rules pertaining to safety, asepsis, and radiation protection.
